The City of Bonita Springs was first established under the name “Survey” in the 1870s. The city saw a land boom in the 1920s when both the Fort Myers-Southern Railroad and Tamiami Trail crossed through it. Now, the Bonita Springs boasts a population of more than 47,000 people. The area offers beaches, parks and preserves for outdoor recreation, along with plenty of unique attractions. One such attraction is the Everglades Wonder Gardens, a historic botanical garden that is home to tropical birds, reptiles and plants. The Mayor of Bonita Springs is Peter Simmons, and the City Council is made up of representatives from six districts.
